Weekly money-loop review — October 22: the bear case moves to financing
Weekly money-loop review — October 22: the bear case moves to financing
Internal accountability note, written October 22 against SPY's settled close of 2026-10-22. It covers paper books and desk calls only. It is not a new set of calls, and nothing in it changes a term sheet or a policy.
What came before. The last weekly note on disk is dated September 7 (the weekly money-loop review). No note exists from around October 15; the ladder's conversion window opens on 2026-10-15, so a readout probably ran then without a note. The bear-case rotation below picks up from the September 7 note, which covered memory.
1. Score, ladder and readout
Score and backfill. On October 22 the scoring run graded 8,455 rows across 12,439 complete windows. It found 0 complete windows with null excess, 61 rows with no data and 77 voided rows. Backfill appended 0 rows (590 were already present). SPY has no data at 2026-10-23, so excess is null for the newest dated rows and grading is off for that date; SPY windows from October 16, 19, 21 and 22 are still pending. Both are expected before the next settle.
The ladder, books with a mandate window (October 22 ladder run; excess is direction-signed vs SPY):
| Book | Window | Scored / matured in window | Hit rate (window) | Median excess (window) | Last-20 median | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| yolo | 30d | 66 / 66 | 0.55 | +1.30 | +4.12 | promote-eligible (drawdown not computed) |
| yolo-insider-probe | 30d | 3 / 3 | 0.67 | +0.85 | n/a | hold |
| swing-kid | 30d | 16 / 16 | 0.50 | +0.58 | n/a | hold |
| mention-scalper | 30d | 2 / 2 | 0.50 | 0.00 | n/a | hold |
| degen | 30d | 16 / 16 | 0.44 | -0.81 | n/a | hold |
| buffer-trader | 90d | 1 / 1 | 0.00 | -0.39 | n/a | hold |
| claude-trader | 90d | 69 / 47 | 0.43 | -4.10 | -3.93 | hold |
| bench-signals | 90d | 150 / 102 | 0.38 | -5.47 | -1.34 | hold |
| claude-trader-trail | 90d | 14 / 4 | 0.25 | -9.06 | n/a | hold |
| bench-signals-trail | 90d | 38 / 7 | 0.14 | -11.62 | n/a | hold |
| momentum-trader | 90d | 4 / 0 | n/a | n/a | n/a | maturing until 2026-11-21 |
Ahead and behind. Ahead on their own windows: yolo, swing-kid and the three-trade yolo-insider-probe. Behind: the two months-horizon books, bench-signals and claude-trader; their trailing-stop forks are further behind on very small matured counts.
yolo's promote-eligible flag is not a promotion. The ladder says yolo meets the paper-to-shadow criteria except drawdown, which v1 does not compute. Its d90 median is -5.66 and its worst 30-day trade is -49.31. Moving it to shadow is the user's call, and the missing drawdown figure has to come first.
Books with no trades yet. Seven books have zero scored fills and are maturing: bench-signals-hold, claude-trader-hold, core70-slice3-ex30-v1, dip-buyer, lag6-cal-v1, short-seller and value-vulture. chaser has been parked since 2026-08-27.
Unmandated books (no horizon, so not on the ladder; 30-day median excess): conviction -8.28 on 29 trades (attributions so far 6 within-plan and 6 execution); claude-momentum -0.41 on 84; autotrade -1.60 on 10. The 13F and congress mirrors are scored but stay off the ladder by design.
Autotrade, prove-on-paper scoreboard (as of 2026-10-22):
| Period | Book | Basket buy-and-hold (DRAM, SMH, XLK, SKYY, USO) | SPY buy-and-hold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Since 2026-06-17 | -0.44% | +2.83% | +3.10% |
| Since inception, 2026-06-11 | -0.46% | +0.90% | +3.55% |
Equity is $99,536.14. Activity: 83 cycles, 9 fills, 0 rejects and 3 guardrail trips. One open position: USO, +14.42% on its entry. Recent closes: SMH at -11.43% (2026-10-15) and SKYY at +2.62% (2026-10-19). The book still trails both of its comparisons.
Gate counterfactual. There are no blocked gate intents, so there is nothing to grade.
Recommendation scoreboard (d30, policy v2-feeder-edge-rank, October 22 readout):
- Actors. desk:board: n=1,047 with 473 complete; mean -0.62%, median -0.22%. desk:read: 1,289 complete; mean -0.10%, median -0.46%. desk:call: 22 complete; d30 mean +0.35%, median +0.50%. Its d90 has 11 complete, mean -6.83% and median -4.16%. Another 133 watch or pass calls are logged but unscored.
- Feeders at d30. Strength is the only clearly positive feeder (+2.02% mean / +1.04% median, 115 complete). Suggestion is +1.13% / 0.00% (177 complete). Weakness -3.30% / +0.01%; target -1.93% / -3.47%; bells -4.06% / -3.18%; candidate -4.50% / -7.25%. Exit has only n=2.
- Feeders at d90. Bells (-11.11% / -8.64%, 18 complete) and candidate (-8.69% / -6.94%, 10 complete) stay the worst. Strength is +2.56% mean / -0.92% median (34 complete). Suggestion has only 3 complete, effectively an insufficient window.
- Endorsed vs flagged. Endorsed rows (mean -2.11%, median -1.19%, 1,025 complete) beat flagged rows (mean -5.87%, median -3.89%, 680 complete). Both are still negative vs SPY.
- By regime. Positive: breakout (+0.46% mean / +1.64% median, 19 complete) and collapse (+2.64% / +1.02%, 276 complete). Negative: parabolic is the worst (-7.70% / -6.87%, 10 complete); uptrend and pullback are also negative.
- By horizon. Years-frame calls (n=441) have no fitting window matured yet, so that cell is an insufficient window.
- Policy versions. At d30, v2 (-1.02% mean / -0.55% median, 1,061 complete) is behind v1-baseline (+0.93% / +0.10%, 701 complete). This is not a verdict: v2 shipped on September 15, into the September–October AI selloff, and the policy log records that the board recorder has refused entry rows since August 31, so the two populations differ. Its readout_by is 2026-11-16, and it should be split by regime, as that entry's confounders note says.
- Insufficient-window cells. Eight actors with zero complete windows: the 13F actors altimeter, atreides, coatue, greenoaks, helmer, hohn, klarman, loeb and tepper; chaser; dip-buyer; short-seller; value-vulture. Three with entries but nothing complete yet: core70-slice3-ex30-v1 (n=8, 0 complete), lag6-cal-v1 (n=1, 0) and claude-trader-hold (n=1, 0).
- Baselines. Random-entry and momentum baselines are unavailable on every date. Earlier dates have no tracked summaries, and the local OHLC is incomplete for October 21 and 22.
Policy log. Nothing is past due: v2-feeder-edge-rank reads out 2026-11-16 and call-policy-v1 reads out 2027-01-15.
Conversion, last 7 days since October 15. 31 rungs were armed, 3 fired, 0 converted and 0 declined. Over the whole history, 19 declines have been scored at 30 days with a mean signed excess of +7.42 ("Discipline saved 7.42% vs SPY"). The three fired rungs have no disposition on record, and the readout does not name them. A fired trigger with no conversion and no decline is the same smell as an unresolved flag.
2. Standing questions
Bear-case attack: Electricity (ai-power-bottleneck plus ai-power-delivery)
The bear's argument. A short-seller would not attack demand. They would say the demand is borrowed money and the borrowing is cracking first. This week's evidence feeds that financing angle, not either of the case's two falsifiers.
- Meta's quarter turned free cash flow negative, raised its capex floor and pushed its five-year credit-default-swap price to a record (CNBC, October 22; press-stated, the filing was not read for this note).
- Nvidia's CEO said neocloud demand is "off the charts" but capital is scarce (CNBC, October 22).
- MarketWatch tied Thursday's chip selloff to Tesla's lower spending target, Lam's weaker-than-expected forecast and "a fresh reminder that the AI boom relies on outside funding."
- On October 21 the president said data centers should generate their own power (MarketWatch). Experts quoted there say only states can mandate it. The case names a verified behind-the-meter commissioning as an early-review trigger; a policy statement is not one.
The tape (desk summaries, as of 2026-10-22): the AI Power lane fell 8.06% median, with 5 of 55 names up, and is down 21.25% median over 30 days. All ten electricity key tickers closed below their 200-day averages, so the long trend is genuinely under test across the whole lane. GE Vernova's 200-day sits at 937.94 and Quanta's at 621.41; those are the levels to watch into their reports.
Vicor, the delivery case's clearest converter. It beat on October 20, per the company release and call coverage in the October 23 news pull: revenue $197.1M, +78.5% year over year; gross margin 68.3%; backlog $406M; a Q4 guide of about 10% product growth plus at least $43M of royalties. It then fell 15.66% on October 22. No Vicor-specific cause was found: the news pulled October 23 carries only the print coverage, stock-events has only the October 20 earnings row, and the October 21–22 captures have nothing on Vicor. The bear reads this as a royalty-led beat the market won't pay for. The case's own rule is to promote only on product revenue with stable margins, and that needs the 10-Q's product/royalty split, which has not been read.
Two smaller hits for the bear. Forgent, an electrical-distribution maker for data centers, fell 21.54% on its first public results day and filed an 8-K on a CFO transition the same day (news, October 22–23). Carpenter, a turbine-alloy supplier, fell 20.62%: it beat EPS and kept guidance but missed revenue on planned maintenance outages (company release and coverage, October 22). Neither is a cancellation.
The falsifiers are untouched. No equipment cancellation or deferral appears in any filing, and no new usable supply has arrived. The counter-evidence still stands: 345 kV transformer bushings take more than 130 weeks, and Howmet's gas-turbine revenue rose 37.8%.
Which kind of name is which. Constellation, Vistra, Talen, Navitas and Eaton are flat or down on the year, which is a base below the 200-day, not a defect. GE Vernova, Quanta, Vicor, Monolithic Power and Vertiv are up on the year but now sit below their 200-day averages, so their long trends are being tested. The open CEG desk call ("holds above the 200-day, $286.14 at the Oct 9 close") is flagged for invalidation and belongs to call-check.
Verdict. The bear has new material on financing and on the tape, and nothing on the falsifiers. Four reports decide it: GE Vernova (scheduled October 28) and Quanta (scheduled October 29) for the bottleneck leg; Vertiv (provider estimate October 28) and Monolithic Power (scheduled October 29) for the delivery leg.
Concentration read
The shared factor is still AI-derivative demand. This week it showed a financing sub-factor: hyperscaler free cash flow, neocloud credit and AI-linked debt costs.
How much rides on it. Both adopted primaries, Memory and Electricity, ride it. Five of the six active campaigns ride it: memory, nearline storage, optical, AI power generation and AI power delivery. The sixth, energy-to-humanitarian transmission (active since September 18), does not. By key ticker, 20 of the 48 active-campaign key tickers are AI-linked; the other 28 all belong to that single energy campaign. The monitoring counter-case, ai-capex-digestion, is the same factor read short. No capital weights have been adopted, so this is a count, not an exposure weight.
The single print that hits all of it. A hyperscaler capex guide-down in the cycle that opens with Microsoft, scheduled October 28 per the counter-case campaign. Meta's October 21 print went the other way on capex (the floor was raised) and hit the financing channel instead. Lam's guide of $8.60B ± $400M against $8.22B in the September quarter (company release) is equipment-side. For memory it cuts both ways. The memory tripwire (Micron's FQ1 margin vs ~86.25% and its FQ2 guide) does not land this week; SK hynix (provider estimate October 27) and SanDisk (provider estimate October 29) do.
Did the share move? Structurally it is slightly down since September 7: one non-AI active campaign was added on September 18, and the September 7 note left the share unmeasured. Realized co-movement is up. On October 22 (rotation map) these lanes fell almost as one:
| Lane (rotation map, Oct 22) | Median 1D | Names up |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | -7.74% | 0 of 10 |
| Neoclouds | -8.94% | 0 of 10 |
| Optical supply chain | -10.85% | 0 of 28 |
| AI Power | -8.06% | 5 of 55 |
SMH fell 5.99% but is still 1.7% above its 200-day, on a one-year gain of 54.56%. Memory leaders still hold their long trends: MU is +331.55% on the year and 17.4% above its 200-day; SNDK is +758.07% and 2.4% above its 200-day. For risk purposes, treat the AI campaigns as one bet.
3. Omission loop: thesis-tag audit, 21 prompts
The prompts break down as 9 reopen-trigger-hit, 4 pass-ran (two overlap), 1 caution-overridden and 10 intact-broke. Prices are from the desk summaries as of 2026-10-22, and each line names the leg of the tag's own reopen band that fired. "Re-derive the band" means replacing price levels that have gone out of date; "tag stands" means the thesis label does not change yet.
- CBRS (intact-but-priced, July 19). Fired: the lower leg, 108.94 against 160.81, the "fully unwound" level. RSI 22, 71.8% under its high; too new for a 200-day. Verdict: re-examination owed and the tag stands until it is done. Queue a profile refresh for the next EOD or EOW scan, then re-derive the band. Do not reclassify on price alone.
- ELAN (intact-but-priced, July 19). Fired: the lower leg, 22.69 against 23.68, so the retreat is confirmed. Up 4.85% on the year with alpha -9.55, and 4.7% under its 200-day (23.82): a base below the 200-day. Verdict: the caution stands and was right (since-verdict -12.2%). Re-derive the band with the 200-day reclaim as the upper level.
- GDX (no-view, July 19). Fired: the lower leg, 81.69 against 90.21, the "recovery failed" level. 10.2% under its 200-day; up 11.98% on the year. Verdict: no-view stands. Record the failed recovery as the gold-miner signal and re-derive. The two open GDX desk-call flags (August 19 and August 28) belong to call-check.
- ILMN (intact-but-priced, August 12; pass-ran +39.7%). Fired: the upper leg, 269.40 against 231.81, the "caution formally beaten" level. +177.07% on the year, 56.4% above its 200-day, 12.91% under its high. Verdict: update the tag. Its own pre-registered condition beat the caution, and the receipt is that trigger plus the October 22 summary. Propose intact, with a fresh pullback band from a dive refresh queued for the next EOD or EOW scan.
- INTU (broken, July 17). Fired: the upper leg, 354.90 against 354, the auto-set 50-day reclaim level. RSI 72 and +21.4% over 30 days, but still 3.9% under its 200-day (369.29) and -47.09% on the year. Verdict: "broken" stands as a business call until a profile refresh tests the AI-disruption claim. A reclaim of the 200-day is what would end the base. The September 25 desk pass's revisit condition governs entries.
- MU (intact-but-priced, July 19). Fired: the lower leg, 856.49 against 929.80, the "first structure break" level. +331.55% on the year and 17.4% above its 200-day (729.41). Verdict: the tag stands. This is a deep pullback in an intact long trend, not a breakdown. Re-derive the band with the 200-day as the lower level. The business test is the campaign tripwire.
- NBIS (intact-but-priced, August 13). Fired: the lower leg, 159.17 against 211.77, meaning the 220–235 base failed. 9.3% under its 200-day (175.57); +61.4% on the year. Verdict: the setup failed and the long trend is under test. The business tag stands pending two things: the 6-K filed October 22 (not read) and the neocloud financing evidence. Watch for a reclaim of the 200-day at 175.57, then re-derive.
- NTRA (intact-but-priced, July 19; pass-ran +47.9%; caution-overridden). Fired: the upper leg, 401.37 against 343.20. The leg also required at least 1x relative volume on the reclaim day, which is not on file; relative volume is 0.96 today. +113.47% on the year, 53.9% above its 200-day, 8.24% off its high. Verdict: update the tag to intact. The caution has lost on every window since July. Entries go through the September 23 target zone ($343–360) or a new high confirmed on volume.
- OUST (intact-but-priced, June 28). Fired: the lower leg, 27.98 against 36, which is also under the June deep dive's own $30 stop. 13.4% under its 200-day (32.30); -4.7% on the year. Verdict: the caution was right (since-verdict -33.4%). The tag stands as a research-only watch; the June note calls it pre-profit at about 12–15x forward sales. Re-derive around the 200-day.
- ABCL (pass-ran +78.5%, June 4). The lower trigger at 5.40 never fired. The price is 11.37, 72.2% above its 200-day (6.60). Verdict: the worst miss on the scoreboard. The tag stands pending fresh underwriting, as the September 7 note also said. The 5.40 band now sits below the 200-day and is dead; re-derive it or retire the tag at the next refresh.
- RGEN (pass-ran +41.2%, June 4). The lower trigger at 130 never fired. The price is 178.71, 23.8% above its 200-day (144.35); +13.53% on the year. Verdict: the tag stands pending the margin-recovery evidence that has been open since September 7. The 130 band sits below the 200-day; re-derive it.
Intact-broke, not required. LAES, LASR, WDC, STX, POWI, VRT, BESIY, AOSL, POET and NVTS. Four are campaign key tickers: WDC and STX for nearline storage, VRT and NVTS for power delivery. WDC beat on October 22 (provider calendar; the 8-K text was not read). Those four go to their campaign reviews.
Thesis-verdict scoreboard. Across 32 cautious tags, the names we passed on fell 12.3% on average, so passing saved 12.3%. Four passed names ran more than 25%, and 18 fell more than 10%. The company-profiles stream's passes saved only 1.7%, against 14.8% for deep dives.
4. Origination queue (generated October 23, 01:53 UTC; 10 rows)
These are proposals, not calls. Screens: A is basing after a run, C is a fired fundamentals wire item, D is a VWAP reclaim. Tape is from the desk summaries as of 2026-10-22.
New on October 22
- NTRA (biotech, A): watch. Ties to the omission verdict above. Trigger: the existing $343–360 target zone, or a settled new 52-week high on at least 1x relative volume.
- CASY (consumer, D): watch. +30.91% on the year, but 3.5% under its 200-day (739.32) after a 22.03% 30-day pop; RSI 68. Trigger: a settled close above the 200-day that holds a retest. No call while it is under that line.
- DUK (electricity, D): watch, as a defensive utility, not an AI-power expression. -2.81% on the year with alpha -17.21, a flat-year base; 1.0% above its 200-day (124.12); RSI 69.9 after a 5.48% week. The defensive lane was 15 of 15 up on October 22, and CNBC on October 21 described utilities becoming an AI hedge. Trigger: a flag that holds the 200-day and the 124.83 shelf.
- KRC (electricity, D): pass for this lane. The October 22 news describes a West Coast office REIT: Q3 FFO of $0.88 and a preview citing 77% occupancy. That is not a power or data-center supplier. Its place in the lane traces to a May watchlist note that files it under data-center REITs; the +4.44% print-day reclaim says nothing about the electricity thesis. Coverage-tag review proposed below.
Active rows
- IBB (biotech, A, since October 21): watch; the strongest structure in the queue. An ETF, +36.14% on the year, 14.2% above its 200-day, 3.49% off its high, RSI 54.4. Trigger: a settled new 52-week high out of the flag. Invalidation: a loss of the 50-day (207.43).
- ARGX (biotech, D, since October 21): watch. The October 12 deep dive's zone governs: $852–870, on a settled close back above the 200-day (852.26) that holds a retest. The price is 2.8% above it. No new call.
- WAT (biotech-capital-cycle, C, since October 12): watch. +30.67% on the year, 24.0% above its 200-day, 2.1% off its high. The wire's +113% revenue growth is not split into organic and acquired; read the filing before treating it as acceleration. Trigger: a new high, with the organic split confirmed.
- KYMR (biotech, C, since October 12): pass for the trend-hold mandate, on business quality. The next move rides a Phase 2b readout (BROADEN2, per the October 12 news receipt), which is binary and lottery-shaped. Nothing read ties the +466% revenue jump to product sales. The news receipt dates from October 13 and has not been refreshed. Revisit after the readout.
- HIMS (consumer, C, since October 9): watch the base. -38.62% on the year with alpha -53.02, but 7.2% above its 200-day (27.17) and 42.87% under its high. What ends the base: a first pop on volume from the 29.16–29.19 cluster of 20-day and 50-day averages. Invalidation: a loss of the 200-day.
- MU (lane label "electricity", C, since September 23): wait. The row has been in the queue a month with no desk verdict on it, the two-week discipline smell. A deep pullback in an intact long trend; entry waits for the campaign tripwire print and a new flag. The 200-day at 729.41 is the long-trend line.
5. The A/B forks and the attribution queue
The forks test a trailing stop against a fixed profit cap. They were forked July 8, and one quarter has now passed. But the d90 window has matured on only 7 entries in bench-signals-trail and 4 in claude-trader-trail. That is an insufficient window for the verdict, so there is no verdict and no promotion.
| Fork vs parent | Variant d90 median (n matured, hit rate) | Parent d90 median (n matured, hit rate) | Variant d30 mean / median (complete) | Parent d30 mean / median (complete) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| bench-signals-trail vs bench-signals | -11.62 (7, 0.14) | -5.47 (102, 0.38) | +2.66 / -1.12 (38) | +0.51 / -0.49 (150) |
| claude-trader-trail vs claude-trader | -9.06 (4, 0.25) | -4.10 (47, 0.43) | -0.19 / -3.16 (14) | +0.43 / -0.05 (69) |
bench-signals-trail's higher d30 mean with a lower median is consistent with fewer, larger winners. But the whole-book cells include the parents' March–July entries from before the fork. This is not the per-mirrored-entry comparison the schedule asks for. The hold variants have no scored fills.
Attribution queue. There are 69 rows: 38 required (losers) and 31 optional (big winners). Six rows are supported by their own rule text: a stop or target fired at its coded level, within-plan; the attribution commands were run after this note was written. After those six, 63 remain. Every losing entry stays unattributed. That covers CRS across five books, CVS across five, BRBR, LHX, NEE, ONON, the conviction EQT and GLD rungs, momentum-trader CF and FCX, degen TNA and TQQQ, swing-kid VRTX and OIH, and dca-larry QQQ. Splitting within-plan from research needs the entry box and stop record.
Within-plan candidates not yet written because the list prints their IDs truncated: META bench-signals (September 15, profit target at +21.0% vs +20%), TSLA yolo-insider-probe (September 4, +20.2% vs +20%), DDOG claude-trader and claude-trader-trail (September 3, stop-loss-accelerating at -16.6%), LASR claude-trader and trail (July 29), ARM claude-trader (September 22, profit target at +32.7% vs +30%).
Evidence gaps (the cause needs fill receipts): mention-scalper MRNA, August 20 (bought and stopped out the same day at -23.6% against a -10% stop; that overshoot points at execution or data); swing-kid CRWD, September 2 (stopped at -6.9% against a 5% stop); yolo MARA (July 18) and SOXL (July 9) (stopped at -22.6% and -22.7% against a -20% stop); bench-signals ARM, September 22 (the +20% target was exited at +32.7%).
Notes for the desk
- The readout's empty-actor cells show "first d30 ≈ 2026-08-04", a date already past. The empty cells are real; the label looks wrong. Worth an engine row, not filed here.
- Three fired conversion rungs have no disposition on record since October 15; the readout does not name them.
- MU's origination row has sat a month with no verdict, and KRC is tagged a data-center REIT while its news reads as a West Coast office REIT. Both are proposed for coverage-tag review. Watchlist edits are Jan's.
- Two pass-ran tags (ABCL, RGEN) have reopen bands sitting below their 200-day averages, so they cannot fire on a pullback. NTRA's and ILMN's bands fired on the upside after weeks of running. This is the band-rot pattern the September 10 re-derivations addressed; these are research-tag edits, not mechanical fixes.
