Consumer names finished the week mixed — 10 of 16 up, led by Lionsgate Studios (+16.73%) and Corsair (+7.35%), against Chipotle (-7.93%), Amer Sports (-5.93%) and Deckers (-5.39%) — but 15 of 16 fell on Friday, with Deckers (-4.91% on 2.88 times average volume), Hims & Hers (-4.87%) and Lululemon (-4.85%) the worst. Nine of 16 now close above their 200-day averages (seven a week ago) as Starbucks and Lionsgate crossed back over the line; Chipotle's RSI of 24.9 is the board's only washout.

Data as of the 2026-10-23 close (settled, Friday). The previous edition closed October 16; the seven-day column runs from that close to this one, so it is the change since then.

Quick Snapshot

Signal Reading
Overall 🟡 Strong month, weak Friday: 10 up and 6 down on the week, 1 up and 15 down on Friday, 12 of 16 up over 30 days. Nine of 16 above their 200-day averages; five trends intact (Lionsgate, Corsair, Crocs, Monster, Starbucks), four in repair, seven below the line on down years. One washout (Chipotle).
Leaders LION (16.73%), CRSR (7.35%), TOST (3.45%)
Laggards CMG (-7.93%), AS (-5.93%), DECK (-5.39%)
Caveat Tape from pre-computed price summaries, 2026-10-23 close. News was refreshed after Friday's close for only six of the 16 names (Deckers, Lululemon, Hims, PayPal, Block, XLY); the rest were last pulled before the session, so their causes read "not on file", which is not the same as no cause.

What's Going On

Friday was one-way: only Corsair rose (+0.66%); the other 15 fell, from PayPal's -0.9% and Starbucks' -1.09% to Lululemon -4.85%, Hims -4.87% and Deckers -4.91%. The consumer-discretionary fund XLY fell 1.66% and the staples fund XLP 1.92%, while energy rose (XLE +2.6%, USO +4.32%) and QQQ was flat (-0.01%). The October 23 market brief has this group 1 of 16 up (about -2.2% median), consumer staples 0 of 10, retail 0 of 22 and travel and leisure 0 of 9, and the month is stronger than the day: 12 of 16 names are up over 30 days, and the brief's 30-day rank for the group still reads leading. Context only: Brent crude topped $116, a six-month high (CNBC, October 23), and the 10-year Treasury yield sat just under 5% (CNBC); no receipt ties the sell-off to either.

Deckers is the one move with a sourced cause. The company reported fiscal second-quarter results on Thursday after the close: EPS of $2.31 against a $1.79 consensus (the stock-event record), record revenue of $1.48 billion (the company's release) that Benzinga reports missed a $1.51 billion estimate, and a lowered full-year revenue outlook; Investing.com showed the shares down 7.3% after hours to about $79. Friday's close was $81.09 on 2.88 times average volume, RSI 43.4, 18.8% under its 200-day on a -20.92% year. Truist and Stifel cut targets, per Google Finance's page. The athletic peers fell with it: Lululemon -4.85%, Nike -2.66% and Amer Sports -2.55% (and On Holding -4.38% in the retail scan). MarketBeat's Lululemon page calls it a broad athletic-apparel selloff alongside governance and legal developments; that is the page's stated reason, and no receipt measures the Deckers print's share of the peers' moves. Lululemon's own news page lists a board appointment on October 22; Nike's news was last pulled before Friday's session.

Restaurants split. Starbucks ($100.80, RSI 61.0) closed 1.3% above its 200-day ($99.50) on a +17.98% year after +3.36% on the week and +7.07% over 30 days, which moves it from a trend under test to intact, though the cushion is thin and it fell 1.09% Friday. Chipotle ($27.52) fell 7.93% on the week and 2.2% Friday to RSI 24.9, 34.77% under its high and 19.8% under its 200-day ($34.31) on a -34.16% year. A Financial Content quote page puts a 5-6% drop on Wednesday, October 21 on a TD Cowen downgrade, and Yahoo Finance's page describes the takeover premium unwinding after Starbucks denied interest on October 14; both are press-stated, and Chipotle's news was last pulled before Friday's session. CNBC's October 23 piece notes multi-brand restaurant operators outperforming single-chain stocks such as McDonald's and Chipotle. Chipotle is estimated to report October 28 after the close and Starbucks October 29 after the close.

The other big weekly mover has no cause on file. Lionsgate Studios rose 16.73% on the week (RSI 65.3, the board's highest; +12.02% over 30 days), now 8.1% above its 200-day on a +94.85% year and 25.21% under its high; Corsair rose 7.35% and was the only gainer Friday, 55.7% above its 200-day on a +63.45% year. Cause unknown for both: Lionsgate's news was last pulled September 30 and Corsair's October 16, so news is not pulled for the moves, and the stock-event records and October 20-23 captures hold no item on either. Hims & Hers fell 4.87% Friday to $27.71 (RSI 44.3), 2.2% above its 200-day ($27.13) on a -42.85% year; MarketBeat's page cites regulatory and legal risk without naming an item, so the cause is unknown (news pulled October 23; nothing in the stock-event records or captures). PayPal (+0.56% on the week, 14% above its 200-day on a -18.15% year) is scheduled to report October 27 before the open. Block (-3.24% Friday) saw its year turn negative (-2.67%), which moves it from intact to repair; Form 4 filings show director Anthony Eisen selling about $1.42 million (filed October 19) and $1.41 million (filed October 22), which does not explain a day's decline.

What Changed Since Prior Scan

Ten up and six down on October 16 became ten up and six down again, but Friday went from 4 up and 12 down to 1 up and 15 down. Names above their 200-day went from seven to nine: Starbucks (1.3% above) and Lionsgate Studios (8.1%) crossed back over it and none dropped out. Intact trends went from four to five: Starbucks and Lionsgate joined Crocs, Monster and Corsair, while Block's year turned negative (+4.49% to -2.67%) and moved it back to repair. The washout list went from none to one, as Chipotle fell from RSI 34.3 to 24.9; the RSI 25-40 tier is empty, as Lionsgate left it (37.4 to 65.3). Leaders rotated from Starbucks, Crocs and Nike to Lionsgate, Corsair and Toast: Corsair went from laggard (-6.16%) to second best, and Crocs went from +7.1% to -3.18%. Chipotle was a laggard both weeks.

How To Read The Board

This is a price-and-momentum screen built from pre-computed price summaries: it shows where each name sits on the tape, not why it moved. RSI under 30 is a washout and 70 or above is extended; neither is a recommendation on its own. The structure label carries the long view and outranks the week: trend intact is above the 200-day average with a positive trailing year (a bad week here is a pullback); repair is above the 200-day but down on the year; trend under test is below the 200-day with a positive year (the 200-day is the line to retake); below the 200-day, year down is where a base would form, and a long flat or down year is what a base looks like before the first pop, so the 200-day reclaim, not the year, is the test. A raw reading becomes a setup only when an intact trend pulls back, holds a level and turns up. No insider, fundamentals or options data is included in the table; business quality is not screened here.
