1. The Read
The S&P 500 had its worst week since June to Friday, October 16 (Bloomberg) as the market sold the AI trade through its lenders; Monday's chip-led bounce left the borrowers behind, and this week's earnings and a widening high-yield spread decide whether it lasts.
Still a rotation, but the line under it moved closer. The S&P 500 fund closed Friday at $763.25, down 1.97% on the week, and Monday at $766.48, 5.7% above its 200-day average on a +14.18% year: the long trend is intact. The gauges that separate a rotation from a liquidation have not newly crossed, but one is moving the wrong way, and one standing breach is already on the books: the 10-year yield's 5% line fired on September 16 and the yield still reads 5.09%. The high-yield spread rose from 3.11% on October 12 to 3.31% on October 16 (FRED), against the 3.50 line that would make this a credit event, while the 10-year yield fell from 5.24% on October 9 to 5.09%: credit widened as Treasuries rallied. The VIX closed Friday at 19.99, a hundredth under its 20 line, and Monday at 18.44.
Last week
The AI trade sold as one, and the trigger ran through its balance sheets. On Tuesday CNBC tied a global memory selloff to reports that China's CXMT had made progress on new chip designs. Wednesday brought a September CPI of 3.7% on the year (CNBC), more than economists expected (Semafor); an 11% drop in Dell after Barclays downgraded Dell, HPE and NetApp on lagging enterprise AI adoption (CNBC); and a 15% fall in CoreWeave as its bond yields neared 15% (CNBC). On Thursday CoreWeave's default swaps reached distress levels (CNBC) and a hot producer-price print had economists warning of another Fed hike (CNBC). On Friday Semafor reported Oracle's debt rated just above junk and the cost of insuring Microsoft's AAA debt up 25% in three months, and Brent touched $110 for the first time since May (Bloomberg). Gartner's forecast that more than 80% of neocloud providers will cease independent operations by 2030 (relayed on X) framed the borrowing question; on Monday CNBC called it the analysis behind the rout, and its analyst stood by it.
The tape matched the wires. In the week to Friday the Nasdaq-100 fund fell 5.52%, the semiconductor fund 10.53% and the cybersecurity fund 10.16%, while equal weight rose 0.49%. On Friday 66 of 125 tracked lists closed with at least 90% of their names down, and confirmed uptrends fell to 190 from 217 in one session. Good prints were not paid: TSMC beat its own revenue guidance (company results page), and its US shares lost 8.98% on the week.
Sorted by the long window, Friday left three groups. The intact pullbacks: the chip fund held 5.6% above its 200-day on a +57.24% year, Micron 22.4% above on +333.93%, and every name on the security list held its 200-day. The trends under test: Nebius closed at $165.47, under its $174.04 200-day on a +34.48% year, which left the neocloud list without an intact trend; Seagate and Western Digital closed under their 200-days on years of +182.71% and +163.66%; chip equipment went from 10 of 13 names above their 200-days to two, ASML and Entegris; optical went from 20 of 27 to five. The broken: CoreWeave, down 25.21% on the week and 33.6% under its 200-day on a −56.69% year.
The money went to oil, staples, healthcare and the defense primes, not to havens. The US oil fund rose 9.15% on the week, staples 5.02% to RSI 71.9 and healthcare 3.45%; Lockheed, Northrop and RTX rose 4.27% to 8.34%, though all 12 defense names stayed under their 200-days. ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and EOG closed within 0.23% of their highs. Gold fell 0.67% and turned negative on the year, 7.9% under its 200-day. Banks gave no support: the big US banks logged their worst weekly losing streak since 2008 (Bloomberg), with Bank of America sliding on a $1.21 billion fine (Bloomberg).
This week
Monday bought back the parts, not the borrowers. The Nasdaq-100 fund rose 1.21%, its index's best day since September 21 (the Kobeissi Letter), and the S&P 500 fund 0.42%, while equal weight fell 0.32% and 617 of 1,265 tracked names fell. Memory went 10 for 10 at a +4.1% median, chip equipment 12 of 13 and security 11 of 11, and Amazon rose 4.98% on 1.56 times normal volume as Morgan Stanley flagged major AI upside (Bloomberg). Bloomberg's wrap described dip buyers betting the AI boom will keep supporting earnings; CNBC wrote that this week's earnings will decide whether the bounce is real. Friday's receivers gave back: food security went 1 of 11, the Iran-war tanker list 0 of 7, defense 2 of 12, staples 2 of 10 and financials 4 of 23.
The borrowers did not join. CoreWeave opened about 10% higher on a Goldman upgrade to Buy (both relayed on X) and closed down 0.44% at $61.12 on 2.53 times normal volume. Nebius rose 2.88% to $170.24 and is still 2.4% under its $174.47 200-day on a +56.18% year: a long trend under test, with that average as the line. Over the five sessions to Monday the neocloud list fell 19.5% at the median, and it ranks last of 125 lanes on the month. Anthropic is in talks to buy $45 billion of computing power from Nscale (Bloomberg, relayed on X); a signed deal would show a buyer still paying for capacity, which is what the lenders are questioning.
The neocloud question is now a financing question. Two analysts on X frame it the same way. Markos (AAIG) uses a 12% yield on cost as his example of a finished project, against financing at about 6% for well-protected facilities and 9% or more for the rest, and KawzInvests reads CoreWeave's 10-Q as an 8.4% blended borrowing cost, with the 15% figure being the market yield on its 2032 bond and the next roughly $20 billion of financing the real risk (both on X, single-source). That makes the terms of the next raise, not the next order, the event to watch for this group. Cerebras, listed in May and too young for a 200-day, closed Monday at RSI 25 with a lock-up window of about 171 million shares due November 7–12 (a Seeking Alpha summary of the prospectus terms). Nebius's report is provider-estimated for November 10 and CoreWeave's for November 11.
Monday did not repair the long windows; read them first. Micron ($904.90) sits 25.5% above its 200-day on a +337.64% year, Sandisk 12.7% above on +826.18%, Lumentum 7% above on +418.33% and the chip fund 7.1% above on +57.96%: deep pullbacks in intact trends, none with a flag. Under test, below their 200-days on positive years: Nebius, Seagate (2.3% under), Western Digital (14.4% under), Lam Research (3.6% under), Coherent (21.3% under on +93.03%) and the small-cap fund (2.3% under on +9.32%). Broken: CoreWeave, Oracle (18.9% under on −53.25%), Broadcom (9.1% under on −4.19%), Tesla and Netflix. Two written watches are void: Constellation closed Monday at $263.19, under the 200-day its October 9 call required it to hold, and Lumentum sits under the 50-day its October 2 call named as the invalidation.
The conditions, by group. Security: the fund's $81.73 200-day has to hold through a flag, then two closes over its $100.15 50-day; it closed Monday at $99.92. Memory: Micron needs a flag first, with its $983.66 50-day and $1,026.05 20-day overhead and its $720.94 200-day far below; the SK hynix (October 27) and Sandisk (October 29) reports are the test of the oversupply worry. Chips: a hold of the fund's $512.29 200-day keeps it a pullback. Amazon: the written zone is $242–$247 and Monday's pop moved it 6.3% away; the company has set its report for October 29. None of these is triggered at Monday's close.
The receivers are extended, not entries. ExxonMobil closed Monday 0.57% under its high at RSI 71 against a $179.16 pivot, ConocoPhillips at RSI 71.2, Coca-Cola at 71.7 and Walmart at 72.5. On the month the rotation map ranks Canadian oil and gas, travel and retail as leaders, lists food security, hard assets, adtech and financials as turning laggards whose seven-day strength has turned positive, and calls cloud software a fading leader. The defense primes are scheduled to report from under their 200-days: RTX (1.5% under) and Northrop (14% under) on Tuesday, Lockheed (3% under) on Thursday.
Banks are the second credit tell. The big US banks just logged their worst weekly losing streak since 2008 (Bloomberg), and Monday the financials list went 4 of 23. Bank of America closed at RSI 21.7, 8.7% under its 200-day on a −3.17% year; regional banks sit 2.1% under their line on a +14.4% year, while the financials fund holds 2.6% above its own. Lenders falling with the borrowers is the pattern that would turn a rotation into a credit story.
The week's prints are the test, and most land on AI. Tuesday is scheduled to bring GE, RTX, GM, 3M, Northrop and Vicor before the open, and Netflix, SpaceX, Intuitive Surgical and Capital One after it. Wednesday: Danaher, Thermo Fisher, AT&T and NextEra before the open; Tesla, Meta, Lam Research, Texas Instruments, IBM and Medpace after. Thursday: Lockheed, Procter & Gamble, Valero, Nokia and argenx before; Western Digital and Bloom Energy after. Northrop, Vicor, Western Digital, Bloom Energy and Medpace dates come from the companies; the rest are provider estimates, and Intel's has moved to October 29. Lam Research ($272.20, 3.6% under its 200-day on a +88.96% year) is the equipment test. Western Digital is the storage test, and the nearline case names what to read: pricing, lead times, gross margin, exabyte shipments and the HAMR ramp. Vicor's report tests whether product revenue, not royalties, carries the rack-power case. Medpace's net awards, cancellations and book-to-bill, with Danaher and Thermo Fisher the same day, decide the biotech-funding review on October 22. Meta, 11.6% above its 200-day on a −3.65% year, is the first hyperscaler of the cycle; for the AI-spending case only a filing or call transcript counts as a capex signal, not an aggregator figure. Netflix ($69.85) and Tesla ($368.06) are scheduled to report from broken charts, 15.6% and 5% under their 200-days on falling years. Microsoft and Alphabet are scheduled for October 28, the day of the Fed decision.
The macro bar is high. September CPI ran 3.7% on the year (CNBC), the 10-year sat at 5.09% on October 16, Fed Chair Warsh offered no rate signal on Friday (CNBC), and Newsquawk had markets pricing a 14% chance of an October hike. No US macro release for this week is on file tonight; the macro news pull failed, so that absence is a gap, not a quiet calendar. Oil is the channel that could make the next print hot: on Monday Bloomberg had crude fluctuating near a five-month high.
Oil has forces on both sides. Pushing it up: Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia escalated enough to postpone Riyadh's investor conference to 2027 (CNBC), Egypt pledged support to the kingdom (Semafor), and the US Energy Secretary spent Monday on the sharp rise in diesel and gasoline prices (Bloomberg). Pulling it down: the IEA agreed on October 15 to complete its outstanding 100-million-barrel release (Bloomberg), the US waived new Russia sanctions (Semafor), and Putin proposed a three-way summit on Ukraine (CNBC). The US oil fund closed Monday 1.55% under its high and 34.3% above its 200-day on a +137.08% year; the pullback that holds its $149.84 20-day is the condition, not a chase.
Monday's single-name moves mostly lack a cause. Cleveland-Cliffs rose 16.34% on 4.88 times normal volume after its third-quarter call before the open and an 8-K the same day; aggregators describe an EPS beat with revenue at or slightly below forecasts, but their figures disagree and are unreconciled. It sits 24.4% above its 200-day on a −12.86% year: a repair. Agios rose 11.43% and AXT 10.34%, and Almonty fell 10.17%; news pulled Monday night holds quote and aggregator pages, no company event is dated to the day and no capture names them, so the causes are unknown.
The live levels. The index confirms an advance on two S&P 500 fund closes above $779.37 with the Nasdaq-100 fund above $748.65 (Monday: $718.36) and the VIX under 16. It breaks broadly on two closes under $756.86 with equal weight under $217.12, and equal weight ($213.40) is already under its leg. The chip fund's $512.29 200-day and Nebius's $174.47 separate pullbacks from broken trends. Medtronic ($92.77) sits inside its $92–$95 zone with an $85 stop; Schrödinger ($23.12) sits inside $23–$26 on a weak short trend; Nutrien ($69.44) closed under its $69 stop on October 9, sits 0.6% back above it, and is 1.8% under its 200-day. Zscaler ($212.53) holds above the $198 level its September call named. Bloom Energy ($226.22) fell through its $256–$273 zone and its $240 stop last week, and Generac ($193.31) closed under its $198 stop.
Not on the list: CoreWeave and the miner conversions, broken on falling years; quantum, speculative businesses on broken years; the defense primes, bounces under their 200-days; and the tankers, which fell 12.17% to 15.61% over the five sessions to Monday but still sit 26.1% to 36.5% above their 200-days. Let them flag.
Watch Wednesday after the close (Lam Research, Meta, Tesla, Texas Instruments, IBM) and Thursday's Western Digital; the levels are the chip fund's $512.29 200-day and Nebius's $174.47. The invalidation of "rotation, not liquidation" is credit: a high-yield spread at 3.50 (3.31% on October 16) or two VIX closes at 20.

3. Pulse
- High-yield spread walks toward its stress line — The ICE BofA high-yield spread rose from 3.11% on October 12 to 3.25% on October 14 and 3.31% on October 16, with a dip to 3.23% on October 15 (FRED), while the 10-year yield fell to 5.09% from 5.24% on October 9. The high-yield bond fund closed Monday at RSI 32, 3.6% under its 200-day on a −5.01% year, and MarketWatch wrote Monday that the riskiest junk bonds are sending a warning. CoreWeave's default swaps at distress levels (CNBC, October 15) are the single-name version of the same move. A spread at 3.50 turns a rotation into a credit event; a spread that turns back down would ease it. High yield ↓ · Neoclouds ↓ · Banks ↓. FRED, 2026-10-16; MarketWatch, 2026-10-19; CNBC, 2026-10-15. Change: none proposed.
- Oil holds near a five-month high as the Gulf war widens — Brent touched $110 on Friday for the first time since May (Bloomberg); on Monday crude fluctuated near a five-month high, with technical resistance tempering the rally (Bloomberg). Saudi Arabia postponed its big investor conference to 2027 as Houthi attacks escalated (CNBC, October 19), Egypt pledged support to Riyadh (Semafor, October 18), and the US Energy Secretary spoke Monday about diesel and gasoline prices (Bloomberg). The US waived new Russia sanctions days before they took effect (Semafor, October 18). Oil ↑ · Refiners ↑ · Airlines ↓. Bloomberg, 2026-10-16 and 2026-10-19; CNBC, 2026-10-19; Semafor, 2026-10-18. Change: none proposed.
- Hot inflation, a quiet chair and a decision on October 28 — September CPI rose 3.7% on the year (CNBC, October 14), more than economists expected (Semafor); a hot producer-price print had one Fed watcher warning of "real risks the Fed will deliver another rate hike in two weeks' time" (CNBC, October 15). Chair Warsh withheld a signal on Friday (CNBC), and Newsquawk had October hike odds at 14% from 26%. The 10-year was 5.09% on October 16. A hike hits long-duration growth again; a hold eases the bond leg. Long-duration growth ↓ on a hike · Long bonds ↑ on a hold. CNBC, 2026-10-14 to 2026-10-16; Newsquawk, 2026-10-16. Change: none proposed.
- China's chip trade tightens from both ends — China is considering export controls on its AI models and chips (Semafor, October 18), two days after Taipei restricted AI-chip sales to China (Semafor). The Chinese memory maker whose design progress opened last week's memory rout (CNBC, October 13) saw its shares fall nearly 8% on Monday after a nine-month earnings forecast (CNBC). China's third-quarter growth quickened to 4.5% on exports (CNBC). Taipei's curbs cut AI-chip sales into China; Beijing's would limit the spread of Chinese models and chips abroad. Chip sales to China ↓ · China AI exports ↓. Semafor, 2026-10-16 and 2026-10-18; CNBC, 2026-10-13 and 2026-10-19. Change: none proposed.
- The neocloud borrowing question gets a buyer and a critic — Anthropic is in talks to buy $45 billion of computing power from Nscale for a second building at its West Virginia campus (Bloomberg, relayed on X), while Gartner's analyst stood by the analysis CNBC tied to last week's rout: AI returns do not yet justify the neocloud build-out (CNBC, October 19). Goldman upgraded CoreWeave to Buy (relayed on X); the stock closed lower. A signed hyperscale contract supports the lenders' collateral; a failed financing at a smaller provider would test it. Neoclouds ↑ on contracts · ↓ on financing. Bloomberg via X, 2026-10-19; CNBC, 2026-10-19. Change: none proposed.
Hatch: open, narrowing — the VIX closed Monday at 18.44 after Friday's 19.99, the S&P 500 fund sits 5.7% above its 200-day, and eleven of the twelve standing macro alarms are quiet, and the twelfth, the 10-year at 5%, fired on September 16, was acknowledged on October 8 and still reads 5.09%; the high-yield spread rose to 3.31% on October 16 from 3.11% on October 9. Two VIX closes at 20 or a spread at 3.50 would argue for tightening.
4. Three Things
- The AI trade sold as one in the week to Friday through its balance sheets: the chip fund fell 10.53%, the cybersecurity fund 10.16% and CoreWeave 25.21% as its default swaps hit distress levels (CNBC, October 15), on top of a 3.7% September CPI (CNBC) and $110 Brent (Bloomberg), for the S&P 500's worst week since June (Bloomberg).
- Monday bought back the parts, not the borrowers: memory went 10 for 10, the Nasdaq-100 fund rose 1.21% and Amazon 4.98% on Morgan Stanley's AI call (Bloomberg), while CoreWeave closed lower after a relayed Goldman upgrade, equal weight fell 0.32% and Friday's receivers (food, tankers, defense, staples, banks) gave back.
- Credit is the line and this week's prints are the test: the high-yield spread rose to 3.31% on October 16 against 3.50, while Netflix (Tuesday), Tesla, Meta, Lam Research, Texas Instruments and IBM (Wednesday) and Western Digital (Thursday) are scheduled to report into a chip fund 7.1% above its 200-day.
5. The Big Picture — Sold Through the Lenders
Last week the market priced the AI build-out through the balance sheets that pay for it: first the GPU landlords' debt, then the biggest buyers' credit protection, then every part supplier together. Monday took back the parts and left the borrowers where they were.
Act 1 — The week to Friday: the credit tape moved first
The selling started in memory and storage on Tuesday, October 13, when CNBC tied a global chip rout to reports that China's CXMT had made progress on new memory designs, and MarketWatch called it the chip stocks' worst stretch in 16 months. Wednesday added the macro and the credit legs at once. September CPI came in at 3.7% on the year (CNBC), above expectations (Semafor). Barclays downgraded Dell, HPE and NetApp on lagging enterprise AI adoption and Dell fell 11% (CNBC). CoreWeave fell 15% as its bond yields neared 15% (CNBC), and traders bought "bubble puts" on it (CNBC). Thursday, CoreWeave's default swaps reached distress levels (CNBC), a hot producer-price print raised the risk of another Fed hike (CNBC), and CNBC named China and a 2029 oversupply as the memory worries. Friday carried the repricing to the buyers: Semafor reported Oracle's $160 billion of debt rated just above junk and Microsoft's AAA debt costing 25% more to insure than three months ago. Brent touched $110 the same day (Bloomberg), and Bloomberg tied the S&P 500's worst week since June to both shocks.
TSMC's record quarter did not interrupt any of it. The company beat its own revenue guidance and guided the December quarter to $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion (company results page), and ASML's chief executive said AI demand will outstrip supply for years (Semafor). TSMC's US shares still lost 8.98% on the week.
Act 2 — Where the money went, and where it did not
In the week to Friday the US oil fund rose 9.15%, the energy fund 4.86%, staples 5.02%, healthcare 3.45% and the defense primes 3.91% to 8.34%, and equal weight rose 0.49% while the Nasdaq-100 fund fell 5.52%. That is a rotation, not a flight to safety. Gold fell 0.67% and turned negative on the year, the dollar had its worst week in a month (Bloomberg), and the high-yield bond fund lost 0.48%. Treasuries rallied: the long-bond fund rose 2.65%. Banks did not catch a bid: the big US banks posted their worst weekly losing streak since 2008 (Bloomberg) after earnings that did not lift sentiment, with Bank of America sliding on a $1.21 billion fine (Bloomberg).
The damage sorted cleanly by the long window. Every name on the security list held its 200-day. The chip fund held 5.6% above its own. The neocloud list lost its last intact trend when Nebius closed under its 200-day, chip equipment fell from 10 of 13 names above their 200-days to two, optical from 20 of 27 to five, and both drive makers closed under their lines on triple-digit years. CoreWeave, Oracle and Broadcom were already broken.
Act 3 — Monday: the parts bounced, the borrowers did not
Monday's tape ran last week in reverse at the parts level. Memory rose 4.1% at the median with 10 of 10 up, NAND 5 of 5, the AI storage list 17 of 17, chip equipment 12 of 13 and security 11 of 11; Amazon added 4.98% on Morgan Stanley's AI call (Bloomberg). The receivers paid for it: food security 1 of 11, the Iran-war tanker list 0 of 7, the grid list 2 of 14, defense 2 of 12, staples 2 of 10, financials 4 of 23. Equal weight fell while the Nasdaq-100 fund rose. Bloomberg's wrap called it dip buyers betting that AI will keep supporting earnings.
The borrowers sat out. CoreWeave opened about 10% higher on a Goldman upgrade (relayed on X) and closed 0.44% lower on 2.53 times normal volume. Nebius gained 2.88% but stayed under its 200-day. The spread had already printed 3.31% for Friday. The bid came back to the companies that sell into the build-out; the companies that borrow to build it are still priced as credits. This week's reports are the first test of whether the parts bid holds: Lam Research, Texas Instruments and Meta on Wednesday, Western Digital on Thursday.

Amazon was the one focus name with news behind its move. It rose 4.98% Monday to $262.45 on 1.56 times normal volume, its best day since August per a relayed post, as Morgan Stanley flagged major AI upside (Bloomberg). It sits 8.1% above its 200-day on a +21.24% year, above the $258.70 support shelf and under a $287.20 pivot. The written entry zone, $242–$247, is 6.3% below; Monday's pop moved it further from an entry. The company has set its report for October 29.
Microsoft is the steady one; its year is the weak point. It rose 0.84% to $533.52, 22.5% above its 200-day and 3.65% under its high, with the $551.15 pivot overhead and the $498.33 shelf beneath. The year is only +3.24%, 10.94 points behind the S&P 500 fund, and its AAA debt costs 25% more to insure than three months ago (Semafor, October 16). Microsoft's investor-relations calendar lists the report for October 28.
The memory names bounced inside long trends, without a base. Micron rose 2.97% to $904.90 and Sandisk 5.53% to $1,371.12; they sit 25.5% and 12.7% above their 200-days on years of +337.64% and +826.18%. Both are still down 8.51% and 7.81% over the five sessions to Monday. The worry CNBC named on October 15, China and a 2029 oversupply, has a counter-read: KeyBanc channel checks relayed by Serenity on X have Google negotiating memory supply agreements through 2035 (single-source relay). The tests are SK hynix (provider-estimated October 27) and Sandisk (October 29).
Nutrien is back on the edge of its stop. It fell 2.55% Monday on 1.64 times normal volume to $69.44, 0.6% above the $69 stop and 1.8% under its $70.75 200-day, after a week in which the food-security list rose while AI hardware sold. The +20.62% year keeps it a trend under test. Its report is provider-estimated for November 4.
Argenx is scheduled to report Thursday from under its 200-day. At $825.61 it sits 3% under its $851.30 average on a −2.81% year, above the $807.38 shelf. The October 12 deep dive's call stands: stand aside until a base reclaims the 200-day after the report, entry $852–$870, stop $805, first target $928, low conviction.

Cerebras, listed in May, is too young for a 200-day and closed at RSI 25.
Memory and storage — Friday memory −6.0% (0 of 10), nearline −6.9% (0 of 3); CNBC tied Tuesday's rout to CXMT's reported design progress and named China and a 2029 oversupply on Thursday. Monday memory +4.1% median, 10 of 10: Rambus +6.2%, Western Digital +6.09%, Sandisk +5.53%, SK hynix's US shares +4.67%, the Korea fund +4.08%, Seagate +3.41%, Micron +2.97%; CXMT's own shares fell nearly 8% the same day (CNBC). Lumentum lost 25.31%, Ciena 26.02% after a failed reclaim, Applied Optoelectronics 31.07%, Aehr 28.4% and AXT 24.82%. Monday +2.25% median, 22 of 28 up: AXT +10.34% (cause unknown), Kopin +8.21%, MaxLinear +8.12%, FormFactor +4.9%, Viavi +4.79%; Coherent −0.38%. Lumentum (7% above its 200-day, +418.33% year) is the intact leg; Coherent (21.3% under, +93.03%), Ciena (14.1% under, +98.82%) and Applied Optoelectronics (30.5% under, +129.06%) are under test. Fabrinet (provider-estimated November 2), Coherent (November 4) and Lumentum (November 5) are the reports.
Chip equipment and semiconductors — All 13 equipment names fell on the week to Friday; only ASML and Entegris still held their 200-days, from 10 of 13, and Onto and FormFactor lost about 25% in five sessions. Monday +2.5% median, 12 of 13 up, but the classifications kept sliding: Applied Materials and Axcelis moved from pullback to collapse, and Lam Research, Viavi and MACOM from pullback to downtrend. Lam Research (+3.13% Monday) sits 3.6% under its 200-day on a +88.96% year, Applied Materials 6.1% under and KLA 8.2% under; ASML (4.2% above) and Entegris (6.2% above) hold. The chip fund rose 1.61% Monday and sits 7.1% above its $512.29 200-day on a +57.96% year. Lam Research is scheduled to report Wednesday after the close, Teradyne October 27.

Monday security 11 of 11 (+1.2%), web cloud 8 of 9 (+2.31%) led by Datadog +5.36%. Every security name still sits above its 200-day: Okta 59.6% above on +115.05%, CrowdStrike 41.6% above on +81.18%; Zscaler (28.2% above on −30.52%) is the repair, and Okta moved from uptrend to pullback Monday. The cybersecurity fund sits 0.2% under its $100.15 50-day. The cloud-software list ranks as a fading leader on the month.
Megacap platforms — Monday Amazon +4.98% (Bloomberg: Morgan Stanley sees major upside from artificial intelligence), Tesla +3.76%, NVIDIA +1.38%, Alphabet +1.05%, Microsoft +0.84%; Apple −0.15% and Meta −0.55%. Meta (11.6% above its 200-day, −3.65% year) is a repair into its scheduled Wednesday report; Alphabet sits 0.9% above its 200-day. SemiAnalysis wrote Monday that NVIDIA's first GB300 counter-submission is still 1.64 times worse in performance per dollar than Google's TPUv7 for external customers (single-source). Apple set a product event for October 28 (CNBC).
Energy and tankers — Friday Canadian oil and gas went 7 of 7 (+2.5%) and the producers broke out to their highs. Monday the energy list fell 0.72% at the median (4 of 16 up): ExxonMobil −0.39% to 0.57% under its high at RSI 71 against a $179.16 pivot, ConocoPhillips at RSI 71.2, Valero −2.56%. Citgo raised its 2026 operating-profit outlook by $2 billion on fuel margins (Bloomberg). The tankers gave back more: Frontline −3.37%, International Seaways −4.69%, DHT −2.42%, the Iran-war list 0 of 7, and DHT and Frontline moved from uptrend to pullback. International Seaways agreed to buy Bruton for about $370 million, adding four supertankers (American Market News and Simply Wall St, aggregator reports). The three sit 26.1% to 36.5% above their 200-days on years up 89.39% to 126.27%.
Staples, utilities and defensives — The week's receivers: staples 10 of 10 Friday and +5.02% on the week; every defensive name rose on the week, and Walmart, Costco and the staples fund reached RSI 71.9 to 73.0. Monday staples went 2 of 10 (−0.73%), the staples fund −0.47% to RSI 68.7, Coca-Cola 0.72% under its high at RSI 71.7. Utilities fell 2.01%; the utilities fund sits 6.6% under its 200-day on a −9.64% year, broken. Walmart sits only 0.3% above its 200-day after the run; Costco 3% above.
Defense contractors — Last week Lockheed (+8.34%), Northrop (+8.14%), L3Harris (+4.87%), General Dynamics (+3.91%) and RTX rose with no company-level cause on file, and none retook its 200-day. Monday the list went 2 of 12 (−0.81%). Lockheed (3% under its 200-day, +8.37% year) and RTX (1.5% under, +19.54%) are under test; Northrop (14% under, −15.17%) is broken. RTX and Northrop are scheduled to report Tuesday before the open, Lockheed Thursday.
Food security — The week to Friday repaired the fertilizer names: 7 of 11 rose, CF (+8.35%) and Nutrien (+5.6%) climbed back over their 200-days, and FMC fell 32.22% to RSI 17.1 after preannouncing a collapse in third-quarter results. Monday the list went 1 of 11 (−2.3%): Mosaic −4.78% to RSI 22.6, 26.1% under its 200-day on a −39.42% year; FMC −5.3% to $5.36 at RSI 16.2; Nutrien back under its 200-day. CF (3.4% above, +41.2% year) and Deere (4.9% above, +35.59%) hold. The rotation map still lists food security as a turning laggard: its seven-day strength has turned positive while the month stays negative.
Financials — The big US banks posted their worst weekly losing streak since 2008 (Bloomberg, October 16). Monday the list went 4 of 23 (−0.86%): Ameriprise −4.07%, Schwab −2.59%, Wells Fargo −2.47%, JPMorgan −1.82%, Bank of America −1.64% to RSI 21.7, 8.7% under its 200-day on a −3.17% year. The financials fund holds 2.6% above its 200-day; regional banks sit 2.1% under on a +14.4% year, under test. News for JPMorgan and Wells Fargo was last pulled Friday, so Monday's drop is not explained here.
Healthcare and biotech — Last week healthcare rose 3.45% with Lilly +6.59%, while biotech went 15 of 40 up as the genomics squeeze unwound (GRAIL −13.03%, Recursion −16.59% Friday). Monday healthcare was flat-to-lower (−0.26% median); Agios rose 11.43% (cause unknown), Moderna 4.07%, and ImmunityBio fell 8.28% (news not pulled for the move). Marriott golden-crossed with a +15.3% month behind it and closed at RSI 76.9; Abercrombie rose 5.71% to 0.42% under its high at RSI 76, and the retail fund moved from downtrend to uptrend Monday.

A cap-weighted bounce over a split tape. Monday the Nasdaq-100 fund rose 1.21% and the S&P 500 fund 0.42%, but equal weight fell 0.32% and tracked names split 635 up and 617 down with a flat median. Fifteen lanes closed with at least 90% of their names up and four with at least 90% down; on Friday it was 2 and 66. Eight lanes moved against their own 30-day reading, every one of them a laggard on the month bouncing for a day: memory, NAND, nearline storage, DRAM, test and burn-in, HBM, chip equipment and AI storage. Confirmed uptrends rose to 200 from 190 and downtrends fell to 167 from 184, and the Momentum Board grew to 432 names from 420. The VIX fell 7.7% to 18.44.
Monday unwound last week's trade at the lane level. What was sold rose and what was bought fell: memory, equipment and security up; food, tankers, the grid, defense, staples and banks down. Positioning may explain the speed. A ParadisLabs post on X has hedge funds more than 8% underweight tech against the MSCI World, with net exposure cut through new shorts rather than sold longs, and quotes JPMorgan expecting the rotation out of tech to moderate rather than end (single-source). Short covering would fit a bounce concentrated in last week's worst lanes; the posts do not show it.
What does not fit. The VIX fell Monday while the high-yield spread's latest reading, 3.31% on October 16, was its widest of the month. US margin debt reached a record 4.5% of GDP in September (the Kobeissi Letter, single-source) while hedge funds are reported underweight tech. SemiAnalysis's Monday headline counts 60 gigawatts of data centers under construction and $1.3 trillion of lease contracts signed this year, the same day CNBC carried Gartner's warning that AI returns do not yet justify the neocloud build-out. Gold slipped as yields stayed high despite softer oil (Bloomberg), with crude near a five-month high.

Expanded Dispatches
Semiconductor Equipment — The equipment list went from a flag to a break in one week. All 13 names fell on the week and on Friday, every one closed under its 20-day, and only ASML and Entegris still hold their 200-days, down from 10 of 13 on October 9. KLA, Applied Materials and Lam Research went from 9% to 17% above their 200-days to 6% to 8% under, Onto and FormFactor lost about 25% in five sessions, and Camtek's one-year alpha turned negative. Every trailing year is still positive, so these are long trends under test, not broken ones. Monday's 12-of-13 bounce did not repair them: Applied Materials and Axcelis moved from pullback to collapse and Lam Research to downtrend. Lam is scheduled to report Wednesday after the close, from 3.6% under its 200-day.
Cybersecurity — The month's cleanest leader sold as one. All 11 names fell on the week and on Friday, ten of them by 10% or more: Okta −19.33%, Palo Alto −18.33%, Cloudflare −17.91%, SentinelOne −17.85%, CrowdStrike −17.32%. The three names that were extended at RSI 70 a week earlier now read 40.7 to 51.4. Nothing broke the long trends: all 11 still close above their 200-days, and ten sit on years of +28.3% to +113.5%; Zscaler, −30.7% on the year, is the repair. Monday every name rose. Friday's industry report set the condition for the fund: a flag that holds its 200-day, then two closes over its 50-day, which sits just above Monday's close.
Food Security — The agriculture list was the one board that rose in a week that crushed AI hardware: 7 of 11 names gained, and the October 9 fertilizer breakdown reversed. CF (+8.35%) and Nutrien (+5.6%) climbed back over their 200-days, Deere and Archer-Daniels-Midland widened their cushions, and five of nine names with a 200-day sat above it, from three. FMC fell 32.22% to RSI 17.1 after preannouncing a collapse in third-quarter results. Monday gave it back: the list went 1 of 11, Mosaic fell to RSI 22.6 and Nutrien slipped back under its 200-day, 0.6% above its $69 stop. The September CPI left the food link undecided: food at home fell 0.1% while energy rose 5.2%, seasonally adjusted.
Turnaround Watch — Monday's refresh holds 32 deep-drawdown names that have turned up, from 26 on Friday. Eight operating companies joined: HubSpot, Roblox, Dow, Martin Marietta, On, Fidelity National Information Services, Legend Biotech and Vita Coco; Pinterest, $BIPC, $KEN and $AHG dropped off. Three inverse or volatility funds also qualified on the screen's arithmetic and are not candidates. Every name still carries a death cross; Intuitive Surgical (1.3% under its 200-day), HubSpot (1.1% under) and Elbit (2.8% under) sit closest to their lines. This is the pop in bottom → pop → flag → breakout, and no flag has formed.

Perspective Dispatches
AI spending: the supplier earnings reversal case — The week tested the financing channel, not the order channel. CoreWeave's bond yields neared 15% (CNBC, October 14) and its default swaps reached distress levels (CNBC, October 15); Semafor reported Oracle's debt just above junk and Microsoft's credit protection up 25% (October 16). No customer has disclosed a capital-spending cut. Microsoft's October 28 report opens the hyperscaler cycle; the review is set for October 30, earlier on a filed guide-down or a new Oracle equity authorization.
AI optics: bandwidth becomes supplier earnings — The optical list went 0 for 28 on Friday and only 5 of 27 names now hold their 200-days, from 20. Lumentum's long trend is intact (7% above its 200-day), but its October 2 watch is void: it closed under the 50-day that call named. No issuer changed orders or margins. Fabrinet (provider-estimated November 2) opens the two-report test.
AI memory: pricing discipline through the supply ramp — CXMT's reported design progress opened the memory rout on October 13 (CNBC), and CNBC named China and a 2029 oversupply on October 15; Micron's fiscal 2026 10-K, read October 16, verified no failure leg. Monday the list went 10 for 10 and CXMT's shares fell nearly 8% (CNBC). Micron and Sandisk hold intact trends. SK hynix (October 27) and Sandisk (October 29) are the provider-dated tests; the review is October 30.
Nearline storage: density and supplier discipline — Both price triggers have fired: Western Digital closed under its 200-day on October 8 and Seagate on October 16. Monday both bounced (+6.09% and +3.41%) and both remain under their lines on triple-digit years. Western Digital's report, scheduled Thursday after the close per its investor page, opens the two-report test; the review is October 23.
AI power: rack and chip conversion — Vicor fell 12.92% on Friday with no cause on file and sits 15.1% under its 200-day on a +228.53% year into its scheduled Tuesday report, the case's first named print. Vertiv (provider-estimated October 28) and Monolithic Power (October 29) follow; the review is October 30.
The power and grid campaign — Constellation closed Monday at $263.19, 7.2% under its 200-day on a −28.87% year, which voids its October 9 watch; Vistra ($149.70) sits 0.5% above the $149 stop of its October 6 deep dive. The grid list went 2 of 14 on Monday. GE Vernova's October 28 report is the order-conversion test.
Energy shock to hardship: the Saudi phase of the Iran war — The September CPI (October 14) left the case undecided: food at home fell 0.1% while energy rose 5.2%, seasonally adjusted. Brent touched $110 on Friday (Bloomberg) and Saudi Arabia postponed its investor conference as Houthi attacks escalated (CNBC, October 19). The October CPI on November 10 is the next dated test.
Energy disruption: physical flows and exporter economics — The case's why-now was rewritten on October 17 around the October phase of the Iran war. ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips and EOG closed the week within 0.23% of their highs and sit 17.1% to 22.1% above their 200-days. Price is not realized margin: Cheniere (October 29) and ExxonMobil and Chevron (October 30) are the provider-dated tests.
Nuclear fuel: contracting reaches enrichment and supply — The uranium fund was reclassified to collapse and sits 26.2% under its 200-day on a −33.98% year; Centrus fell 19.31% on the week to Friday. No fuel contract or award is on file. Cameco (October 30), BWX Technologies (November 2) and Centrus (November 4) are scheduled to report on provider dates.
Biotech funding: conversion into tools and CRO orders — The tools and research-services names held through the selloff: Thermo Fisher sits 24% above its 200-day, Medpace 17.7% and Danaher 11.5%. Medpace (Wednesday after the close, issuer-confirmed), Danaher (Wednesday, issuer-confirmed) and Thermo Fisher (Wednesday before the open) are the multi-supplier test, with ICON's date now October 27 on the provider calendar; the review is October 22, and the case promotes only on net awards tied to biotech customers at more than one supplier.
Drone defense: contracts become profitable deliveries — The primes bounced last week while the drone small caps kept breaking: Unusual Machines fell 21.7% and lost its 200-day, and Red Cat (RSI 20.7) and Tessera (20.8) sit in capitulation, with 21 of 22 names under their 200-days. No funded award moved the group. Kratos (November 3) and AeroVironment (provider-estimated December 2) are the dated tests.

The board grew to 432 names on Monday's close from 420 on Friday, and its parabolic tier to 15 from 14: GRAIL, GitLab and $HNGE moved in, and the refiners PBF and Valero dropped to the 40–60% tier. The bigger change sits in the multi-year winners in pullback, which grew to 200 from 184 as last week's chip and optical sellers fell into it: Aehr, AXT, Ciena, Western Digital, Onto, Rambus and Kopin among them. The steady climbers riding the 200-day, the trend-hold pool, shrank to 124 from 127; Alphabet, Marriott, Monster Beverage and Wayfair joined, and Archer-Daniels-Midland, Bristol-Myers, Gilead and eBay left. Software held up best of the extended groups: Atlassian, Paycom, Veeva and Box all sit within 4% of their highs.
Deep Dive Spotlight
One new call this week; two older ones hit their stops.
Friday's industry report — "Money Has Left AI for Oil and Staples Since October 8; Friday It Took Software Too." (October 16) It dated the rotation to October 8, when the Financial Times and CNBC reported OpenAI's annualized revenue near $50 billion, and found every growth lane, not five names, in the selling: 66 of 125 lists at least 90% red on Friday. It read the week as a rotation with a fear day on top, because equal weight rose, Treasuries rallied and credit only softened. The call: 🟡 watch the cybersecurity fund; entry on a flag that holds its 200-day ($81.59 on October 16), then two closes back over its 50-day ($100.11 on October 16); invalidation a close under the 200-day; review November 13. The fund closed Monday at $99.92, 0.2% under its live 50-day.
argenx ($ARGX) — "Argenx Broke Its 200-Day When It Ended a Phase 3 Sjögren's Trial, and a Same-Day Celiac Win Did Not Hold It." (October 12) The stock sat under its 200-day on October 12, on Friday and again on Monday, when it closed at $825.61, 3% under the line, on a −2.81% year. The call: 🟡 stand aside until a base reclaims the 200-day after Thursday's report; entry $852–$870, stop $805, first target $928, low conviction.
Two earlier calls hit their stops. Bloom Energy's October 9 deep dive wanted a close that held $256–$273 with a $240 stop; the stock fell 21.1% in the week to Friday and closed Monday at $226.22, with its report set by the company for Thursday after the close. Generac's October 9 call put its stop at a settled close under $198; it closed Monday at $193.31, 10.7% under its 200-day. Vistra's October 6 call ($155–$160, stop $149) is on the edge at $149.70. Lilly's September 29 buy zone ($1,160–$1,197) held and the stock sits at $1,240.34, short of the $1,292 first target.

Key Signals
Credit: the spread is walking toward the line
The high-yield spread rose from 3.11% on October 12 to 3.25% on October 14, dipped to 3.23% and printed 3.31% on October 16 (FRED), its widest reading of the month, against the 3.50 level that would turn the rotation into a credit event. Over the same days the 10-year yield fell from 5.24% on October 9 to 5.09%: the widening is credit-specific, not a rate move. The high-yield bond fund closed Monday at RSI 32, 3.6% under its 200-day on a −5.01% year, and lost 0.6% over the five sessions to Monday while investment-grade bonds rose 0.3% and intermediate Treasuries 0.7%: orderly, but drifting. MarketWatch wrote Monday that credit markets are sending mixed messages, with the riskiest junk bonds flashing a warning. The single-name stress is concentrated where the AI build-out borrows: CoreWeave's default swaps (CNBC, October 15) and Oracle's rating (Semafor, October 16). Kimberly-Clark raised $4.9 billion of investment-grade debt Monday for its Kenvue deal (Bloomberg), so the high-grade window is open.
Rates and the Fed: hot prints, a quiet chair, a decision on October 28
The 10-year sat at 5.09% on October 16, above its 5% line, with the 2-year at 4.74%, the curve at +0.38 points, the real 10-year at 2.74% against its 3.00 line and effective fed funds at 3.88% (all FRED). September CPI rose 3.7% on the year (CNBC), and a hot producer-price print had one Fed watcher warning of another hike in two weeks (CNBC). Boston Fed President Collins said rates will likely need to rise more (Bloomberg, October 13), Chair Warsh withheld a signal on Friday (CNBC), and Newsquawk had October hike odds at 14% from 26%. The decision is scheduled for October 28. Abroad, traders boosted bets on a Bank of Canada hike next week (Bloomberg, October 19), and the Bank of England's governor said the energy shock delays its 2% target (Bloomberg, October 16).
Oil and the Gulf: near the high, with resistance
Brent touched $110 on Friday, the first time since May (Bloomberg). Monday crude fluctuated near a five-month high as technical resistance tempered the rally (Bloomberg); the US oil fund slipped 0.59% and the Brent fund 0.1%, 1.55% and 1.11% under their highs, 34.3% and 39.9% above their 200-days on years of +137.08% and +141.87%. The war kept widening: Saudi Arabia postponed its investor conference to 2027 as Houthi attacks escalated (CNBC), and Egypt pledged support to Riyadh (Semafor). Two items pull the other way. The US waived new Russia sanctions days before they took effect (Semafor, October 18), and Putin reportedly proposed a three-way summit with Trump and Xi on Ukraine (CNBC). US natural gas futures fell to a two-week low as offshore output recovered from Hurricane Isaias (Bloomberg).
Regime transitions: uptrends turned up; equipment kept breaking
Monday's batch, October 19 against October 16, carried 66 confirmed state changes, and the count of uptrends rose to 200 from 190 while downtrends fell to 167 from 184. The repairs: Airbnb, Salesforce, Ball, Monster Beverage, Wayfair, Garmin and Host Hotels moved from pullback to uptrend, the retail fund from downtrend to uptrend, and Pfizer from uptrend to breakout. The damage was in last week's chip names despite the bounce: Applied Materials, Axcelis, Applied Optoelectronics and Caterpillar moved from pullback to collapse; Lam Research, Viavi, MACOM, Vicor and Wolfspeed from pullback to downtrend; Arista, NetApp, Okta, DHT and Frontline from uptrend to pullback. Agios moved from collapse to pullback on its 11.43% day. On Friday 23 names had moved from uptrend to pullback, Amazon, CrowdStrike, Cloudflare and Palo Alto among them.
Crypto: the coin held, the miners did not
Bitcoin slipped 1.22% in the week to Friday and sits 13% above its 200-day at the latest bar, but on a −24.53% year; ether sits 11.8% above its own on −39.68%. The equities took the damage: the miners fell 19% to 22% in the week to Friday to the first sub-25 RSI readings on the crypto board, and Monday Marathon closed at RSI 22.3 and Riot 28.4% under its 200-day. Strategy sits 0.4% above its 200-day on a −54.14% year. Read as a risk gauge, appetite left through equity beta, not through the coin.
Insider buying: same five buyers, no golden signal
The October 16 Insider Activity scan lists the same five net buyers as the week before: Tesla, CRISPR, Asana, Intel and TSMC. None closed under RSI 30, so there is still no oversold name with insider buying; Intel (RSI 31.4) and TSMC (34.2) were closest on Friday, both above their 200-days. The report's net-flow dollar figures carry no filer names or dates, so they are left out.

12. The Wild & Whacky
- The upgrade lasted less than a session. CoreWeave opened about 10% higher Monday on a Goldman upgrade to Buy (both relayed on X) and closed down 0.44% on 2.53 times normal volume.
- The rout's villain fell as its victims rose. CNBC tied last week's memory selloff to CXMT's reported design progress; on Monday CXMT's shares fell nearly 8% after its earnings forecast (CNBC), and the US memory list went 10 for 10.
- A hundredth of a point, again. The VIX closed Friday at 19.99, after trading above 22 intraday (CNBC), against the 20 line that turns a rotation into risk-off. Monday it fell to 18.44.
- Staples beat the Nasdaq for a week, then lost the next day. The staples fund rose 5.02% in the week the Nasdaq-100 fund fell 5.52%; Monday staples went 2 of 10 while the Nasdaq-100 fund rose 1.21%.
- Steel jumped 16%. Cleveland-Cliffs rose 16.34% on 4.88 times normal volume after its third-quarter call; aggregators describe an EPS beat with revenue at or slightly below forecasts, the figures are unreconciled, and the stock is still down 12.86% on the year.
- A share of SpaceX per child. President Trump thanked Elon Musk for committing to donate one SpaceX share per American child through Trump Accounts (the Kobeissi Letter, relaying the statement). SpaceX rose 1.32% Monday, a day before its scheduled report.
- A $5 fertilizer stock. FMC closed Monday at $5.36 at RSI 16.2, down 35.58% over five sessions and 82.68% off its high, after preannouncing a collapse in third-quarter results.
- Record leverage meets underweight funds. US margin debt hit a record 4.5% of GDP in September (the Kobeissi Letter, single-source), the same day a post on X (ParadisLabs) had hedge funds more than 8% underweight tech.
13. Paper Trade Report Card
October 19 paper results: the cloud-software fund SKYY lost its trend label and the wealth-advisor book's trend-following exit sold 119 shares at $160.03 in the autotrade book, which now holds one position. The degen book took no entry: every candidate failed its strength test, so it stayed flat. The two spec-arm books made no trades.
The performance command reports these inception returns. Start dates differ, so this is a status table rather than a ranking; the SPY column is each book's gap to SPY over its own window, in percentage points.
| Paper book | Inception return | vs SPY (pts) | Days | Closed trades |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| yolo | +11.13% | −4.6 | 221 | 35 |
| claude-trader | +8.96% | −6.8 | 221 | 30 |
| buffer-trader | +2.09% | −1.6 | 162 | 0 |
| autotrade | −0.66% | −4.5 | 131 | 6 |
| swing-kid | −1.34% | −4.8 | 115 | 10 |
| momentum-trader | −2.64% | −3.0 | 59 | 3 |
| degen | −3.06% | −2.6 | 76 | 11 |
The signal benchmark reports +5.55% on a deployed-notional basis, which is not comparable with the cash-funded books above.
14. What I'd Tell a Friend
The AI trade was repriced through its borrowing last week, oil is the second shock, and credit is drifting toward its stress line, yet the S&P 500 fund ($766.48) sits 5.7% above its 200-day and the chip fund 7.1% above its own. Monday's bounce came from the parts; the prices are not entries. These are the conditions worth setting.
- Security software (CIBR, $99.92): all 11 names on the list sit above their 200-days and all 11 rose Monday. The condition from Friday's industry report: a flag that holds the fund's $81.73 200-day, then two closes over its $100.15 50-day, which sits just above Monday's close.
- Micron ($904.90): 25.5% above its $720.94 200-day on a +337.64% year at RSI 38.4. Monday's 2.97% bounce is not a base; wait for a flag. SK hynix (October 27) and Sandisk (October 29) are the provider-dated tests of the oversupply worry.
- Nebius ($170.24): 2.4% under its $174.47 200-day on a +56.18% year, the neocloud stack's nearest repair. A close back above that line is the first condition; its report is provider-estimated for November 10.
- Semiconductors (SMH, $548.46): 7.1% above its $512.29 200-day on a +57.96% year. Lam Research on Wednesday is the equipment test; a hold of the 200-day keeps it a pullback, a close under it makes it a broken trend.
- Amazon ($262.45): 8.1% above its 200-day on a +21.24% year after Monday's 4.98% gain on Morgan Stanley's AI call (Bloomberg). The written zone is $242–$247, 6.3% below; let it come in toward the $258.70 shelf, and the company has set its report for October 29.
Not on the list: CoreWeave and the miner conversions, broken on falling years; the quantum names; the defense primes, bouncing under their 200-days into this week's reports; and the tankers, which pulled back 12.17% to 15.61% over five sessions but remain 26.1% to 36.5% above their 200-days.
This week: nothing to buy at Monday's close; set the alerts. Netflix is scheduled for Tuesday after the close; Lam Research, Meta, Tesla, Texas Instruments and IBM for Wednesday after the close; Western Digital and Bloom Energy for Thursday after the close. The one thing to watch: credit. The high-yield spread was 3.31% on October 16 against 3.50; if it crosses, or the VIX closes at 20 twice, this stops being a rotation.
15. Active Perspectives
| Perspective | Status | Key update (week to October 19) | Next review |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI spending: the supplier earnings reversal case | Monitoring | The financing channel cracked first: CoreWeave's bonds and swaps, Oracle's rating, Microsoft's credit protection; no disclosed capex cut | October 30 |
| AI optics: bandwidth becomes supplier earnings | Active | Optical list 0 for 28 Friday; 5 of 27 above their 200-days; Lumentum's trend intact, its October 2 watch void | November 2 |
| AI memory: pricing discipline through the supply ramp | Active | CXMT and oversupply worries drove the rout; Micron's 10-K verified no failure leg; Monday 10 for 10 | October 30 |
| Nearline storage: density and supplier discipline | Active | Seagate joined Western Digital under its 200-day on October 16; both price triggers fired | October 23 |
| AI power: rack and chip conversion | Active | Vicor −12.92% Friday with no cause on file, into Tuesday's report | October 30 |
| AI power: generation and grid equipment | Active | Constellation back under its 200-day; its October 9 watch void; Vistra at its stop | October 28 |
| Energy shock to hardship: the Saudi phase of the Iran war | Active | September CPI left it undecided (food at home −0.1%, energy +5.2%); Brent $110 | November 10 (October CPI) |
| Energy disruption: physical flows and exporter economics | Monitoring | Why-now rewritten October 17 for the October war phase; producers at their highs | October 30 |
| Nuclear fuel: contracting reaches enrichment and supply | Monitoring | Uranium fund reclassified to collapse; no contract or award | November 4 |
| Biotech funding: conversion into tools and CRO orders | Monitoring | Tools and CRO trends held through the selloff into Wednesday's reports | October 22 |
| Drone defense: contracts become profitable deliveries | Monitoring | Drone small caps in capitulation; primes bounced under their 200-days | December 11 |
Open checkpoints. This week carries two campaign reviews: biotech funding on October 22, after Medpace, Danaher and Thermo Fisher's scheduled October 21 reports, and nearline storage on October 23, after Western Digital's scheduled October 22 report. Two written watches also reach their review dates on October 23: the equal-weight fund's (a close back above its 20-day on a session with at least nine of eleven sector funds green and the long-bond fund over its own 20-day) and Accenture's. After them come AI power generation on October 28, four cases on October 30 (AI spending, AI memory, AI power conversion, energy disruption), AI optics on November 2, nuclear fuel on November 4, the energy-to-hardship case on November 10 and drone defense on December 11.
All twelve standing macro alarms read quiet on Monday's data. The advance confirmation has no legs: the S&P 500 fund ($766.48) and the Nasdaq-100 fund ($718.36) sit under their $779.37 and $748.65 lines and the VIX (19.99 on October 16, the latest FRED reading) is above 16. The broad-break alarm is half-armed: equal weight ($213.40) is already under its $217.12 line, and it fires if the S&P 500 fund also closes under $756.86 for two sessions. The 10-year (5.09%) is above its 5% line, but that row fires only on a fresh run after a close back under 5%. The high-yield row (3.31% against 3.50) and the VIX row (19.99 against 20) are the two nearest their triggers.
16. Scan Summary
Scans completed for the October 16 settled close: Market Pulse, AI Sector, AI Infrastructure, Biotech, NVIDIA Ecosystem, Defensives, Healthcare, Consumer, Retail, Cloud ETFs, Cybersecurity, EV & Clean Energy, ETF Universe, Insider Activity, Bargain Bin, Tech Insider Buys, Crypto, Macro & Commodities, Defense Contractors, Geopolitical Risk, Optical Supply Chain, Drone & Defense, Supply-Chain Traces, Semiconductor Equipment, Food Security, Cultural Signals, Airlines, Chemicals, Travel & Leisure, Momentum Board and Turnaround Watch, plus Lazarus Watch, Momentum Discovery and the Momentum ETF Screen. Refreshed on Monday's October 19 close: Momentum Board and Turnaround Watch. Lazarus Watch was not refreshed Monday.
Coverage: 34 dashboard rows; one deep dive in the week (argenx, October 12) and one industry report (October 16, with a cybersecurity-fund call); 11 live campaigns, six active and five monitoring; eight dated price targets, with Medtronic and Schrödinger inside their zones and Nutrien near its stop; six names lit on three of five signal families, none higher.
Dates and sources: Monday's prices are the settled October 19 close for 1,285 unique symbols; Friday's October 16 close is the labeled baseline for every last-week claim. Treasury yields, the high-yield spread and fed funds are October 16 readings from FRED; the VIX closed at 18.44 on Monday. News for 141 names was pulled Monday night with none degraded; 110 more carried earlier pulls, the oldest 119 hours old.
Gaps, stated plainly. The macro news pull failed on Monday night: every result came back undated and none was kept, so no macro calendar for this week is on file and its absence above is a gap, not a quiet week. Per-name news for Monday came from a backup search service and leans on aggregator and quote pages; where a move has no cause above, that is what the pull returned. The market-wide momentum discovery screen returned no table, so no new names were added. Eleven followed X accounts came back empty, probably rate-limited, so quiet on X is not evidence of quiet news. Cleveland-Cliffs' quarterly figures are third-party and unreconciled; only the direction is used. Four Hong Kong listings and the Hang Seng index show no session on October 19 and carry their October 16 close. Atkore left the market: Prysmian completed its acquisition on October 19 at $95.00 in cash per share and NYSE trading was halted for delisting (SEC 8-K), so it is retired from coverage and has no Monday bar.

webSemafor — AI infrastructure debt costs soar: Oracle's debt rated just above junk, Microsoft's AAA protection up 25% $ORCL $MSFT · link- This puts credit-market numbers on the AI selloff. Semafor reports Oracle's debt sits just above junk, and that insuring Microsoft's AAA-rated debt costs 25% more than three months ago. 𝕏Markos (@MarkosAAIG) — Markos - Neocloud systemic risk is the B/C-tier wave borrowing against weak contracts, not the big names $NBIS $CRWV $IREN $NVDA · link- A tracked infrastructure analyst lays out how neocloud stress could spread: newer entrants with weaker customers borrow at high rates from the same lenders and suppliers, so one failure can push the next. That turns this week's CoreWeave credit scare into a question about the tier below the leaders. The Gartner foreca…

CNBC on October 15 named China and a 2029 glut as the fears behind the memory selloff. 𝕏Vmaxpax (@Vmaxpax) — Makai Research - VLCC owners slow-steam in ballast despite $600k-$1m a day earnings, propping up the freight spike $FRO $INSW $DHT $ECO · link- This explains the freight leg of the oil shock. Makai's ship-tracking read finds loaded supertankers at normal speeds but empty return legs at 10 to 11.6 knots; by its math, sailing two knots faster would remove 10 to 12% of the demand for tonnage. It also names what would end the spike: owners speeding up once new fi…

Photon's digest of TSMC's October 15 results pairs a roughly 14% sequential guide and an unchanged capital-spending plan with two cautions: dollar revenue outgrew wafer shipments because of mix, not price, and packaging expansion should be judged by good pac…
webSemiAnalysis (@SemiAnalysis_) — SemiAnalysis — ASML is building a hybrid bonding tool $ASML · link- SemiAnalysis (Oct 15) says ASML is building a hybrid bonding tool, the chip-stacking step in advanced packaging. Only the headline and summary are on file; the full article is behind SemiAnalysis's paywall.

Flow between two close surfaces scales with the cube of the gap, so cutting the die gap from 13 to 6.5 microns for a 16-high stack cuts underfill flow about eightfold. The long-term part of contract liabilities is cash customers have paid or been billed for tools not yet delivered. By his read it rose by almost €6B in one quarter, and short-term investments rose alongside…
𝕏Markos (@MarkosAAIG) — Markos (AAIG) — neocloud returns now come down to yield on cost vs. 6–9% financing; watch dollar-per-megawatt pricing $CRWV $IREN $NBIS $WYFI · link- The clearest framework for the neocloud credit scare (posted Oct 14). A finished project earns a yield on cost (his example: 12%). Financing now runs about 6% for well-protected facilities and 9%+ for others, and he expects the better projects to pay low-7s. That leaves little cushion once build costs rise. His test f…
𝕏KawzInvests (@KawzInvests) — KawzInvests — CoreWeave pays about 8.4% blended, not 15%; the real risk is the next financing $CRWV · link- A line-by-line read of CoreWeave's Q2 10-Q (posted Oct 14). By his count, one $1.3B loan out of roughly $35B of debt carries 15%, and the blended cost is about 8.4%. The 15% figure going around is the market yield on the 2032 bond, not what the company pays.
